New Here?
When And Where Do You Meet?
Calvary is located at 1938 Canton Avenue in Hot Springs, South Dakota on the corner of 20th street and Canton. We have one morning worship service at 10:00. A variety of classes are offered for children and adults prior to the morning service at 8:45. Nursery care for infants through toddlers is provided for all of our morning services. Opportunities to gather in gospel communities throughout the week is available.
What Is The Church Atmosphere?
Our church family is comprised of both young people and seniors with a mixture of backgrounds and the atmosphere is somewhat casual. Dress tends to be business-casual, but there is always a mixture from ties to blue jeans. Stick around following the services to enjoy the informal fellowship and interaction with the folks of Calvary.
What Is The Music Style?
Music style, or genre is secondary. Gospel centrality in the local gathering demand that the music, and the structure of the corporate gathering serve to call to remembrance the redemption found in Christ Jesus. We are reminded over and again in song who God is, who we are, and what Jesus has done for us. Each week our liturgy seeks to follow this pattern and seeks to remind God’s people of the progress of the gospel in their hearts. A further statement on our philosophy of music is found HERE
What Do You Believe?
At Calvary, our pursuit is to exalt Christ through the ministry of the Word. We believe the Scriptures to be the final authority of God’s people and therefore seek to be clear on what it teaches. You can find what we believe HERE.
What Is The Gospel?
The gospel of Christ is the “good news” of God’s provision for reconciliation between He and mankind. HERE is brief explanation about what the Bible says about man’s relationship with God.

What About My Children?
Jesus said, Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 19:14).
Children’s ministry is an exciting part of what God is doing at Calvary! With Bible-based curriculum, inspired worship, and hands-on activities and crafts, the kids at Calvary are having a great time being taught the Scriptures! We are prayerfully building a ministry designed to reach children for Christ in a format that they can enjoy.
Children’s SUNDAY SCHOOL classes take place at 8:45 each Sunday morning; the same time adult Bible studies are taking place.
On Sunday mornings our children join the congregation for the first portion of the service and are dismissed after the music. INFANTS AND TODDLERS are taken to the nursery and children up to kindergarten enjoy LITTLE LAMBS where they are taught the Scriptures on their level.
Students from preschool through fifth grade are invited to Awana Clubs every Wednesday evening during the school year.

What Sort of Church is Calvary?
Calvary is an independent church that is under the headship of Jesus Christ. We are self-governing and are not under any ruling body or denomination. The name Baptist identifies our doctrine, practice, and our history, but Calvary prefers to place more emphasis on Christ and His Word than upon being Baptist. The term “church” speaks of the local gathering of the saints, the “called out ones,” called to serve Christ apart from the world.
How is Calvary Governed?
The local church body is composed of one body with many members all of whom are in vital relationship with Jesus Christ, but the body also has joints of supply, units of control, and unity, i.e., church leaders (Ephesians 4:16). This together suggests body participation under the headship of the Lord Jesus Christ with leadership direction, submission, and authority in a two directional manner.
First, the local government is invested in the body of believers who compose the local body under the headship of Jesus Christ according to the Word of God and the ministry of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 18:20; Ephesians 1:22-23; 4:16; 5:21; Colossians 1:18; 2:19). Second, executive authority or leadership, is invested by the congregation, as authorized by Scripture, in a pastor, or, elder(s) who lead the church and to whom the congregation is to submit under the headship of Christ. (Acts 20:28; 15:6; Ephesians 4:11-12; Philippians 1:1; 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13; Hebrews 13:7a)
Who Can Become a Member?
Church membership is not required for anyone to attend and to become involved in the fellowship at Calvary. All are welcomed to enjoy the benefits and life of the church. Participation is encouraged in any helps oriented ministry and limited people oriented ministry. Leadership oriented ministries are reserved for those in membership. Membership is a conscious, verbal, and public commitment to identify with the local body of believers with a willingness to be held accountable and to hold accountable the brothers and sisters in Christ.
The membership of Calvary is made up of people who 1) have received God’s salvation by faith in the finished and sufficient work of Jesus Christ, 2) have been baptized in obedience to the scriptures, 3) have acknowledged and agree with the doctrinal and philosophical position of Calvary, 4) believe Calvary to be where the Lord would have them grow, worship, fellowship, and serve, and 5) are willing to exercise their spiritual gifts being actively involved in Calvary’s life and ministry. We encourage everyone to prayerfully consider becoming a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
